Friday Photo Tip | Uplighting

Want one super easy way to keep photos of your kids looking beautiful? - Avoid uplighting!

It’s nickname is “ghoul-lighting” and it’s when light comes up your subject’s face instead of down (think about a flashlight

under the chin for ghost stories, though that is a very dramatic version).

Naturally, most light falls on our faces from above — the sun, overhead lighting, etc. This is what our brain see as the most natural, pleasing way to light a face. It’s when we change our position that problems can occur — think those milestone baby blanket photos — just make sure the window light or lamp lighting your child’s face is coming from the top of their head down the nose (a 45 degree angle is really the best!) and your image will look ten times better!
